DESIGN ENGINEER

Focus on tool design engineering

Design engineers work closely with other engineering specialists
and the project manager. Their workstations are located in the
CAD office. Design engineers with a focus on tool design engi-
neering work on design and tool manufacture preparations, and
in the production area. They plan, sketch and finish drawings,
e.g. for cutting, punching and moulding tools.

Computers and software programs e.g. CAD (computer-aided
design) are employed for the completion of calculations, simu-
lations, drawings and technical documentation. Design engineers
are also active in the planning offices, workshops and production
halls, as members of teams with various specialists and staff and
have contacts with customers and suppliers.

Apprenticeship period: 4 years

Vocational school: 4 x 10-week teaching blocks, Linz 3 Vocational School

Necessary abilities:

• Good powers of spatial imagination
• Excellent understanding of geometry
• Freehand drawing abilities
• Profound fundamental knowledge of mathematics, computing and English
• Logical thinking
• Good concentration levels
• High degree of independence, reliability and stamina
