Heat pump project: A milestone in decarbonisation
In the context of our commitment to sustainability and the reduction of CO₂ emissions, we replaced the existing oil heating on our premises in Marchtrenk through a state-of-the-art heat pump system. These means we heat exclusively with renewable energy, dispensing completely with fossil fuels.
Innovative heat pump technology
Our new system consists of three heat pumps with a combined output of 2,155 kW that reach flow temperatures of up to 70°C. The heat source for these pumps is the waste heat created by our machine cooling systems and production processes. Utilising this waste heat means that energy that used to be destroyed is now used and processed efficiently.
If the waste heat from the production process is inadequate (because the machines are not operating or it is extremely cold), the available well system is used as an alternative heat source.
Optimising and efficiency enhancement
In order to achieve efficient operation of the heat pumps, our cooling plant for machinery was also comprehensively converted and optimised, and continuous operation was maintained at the same time. The entire control system for process cooling was completely modernised during this. The water volume in the heating circuit system is now undergoing a needs-based adaptation, thus avoiding the unnecessary use of energy for water conveyance.
Sustainable results
The new heat pumps enable us to save 939 tonnes of CO₂ annually. The project, which took almost a half a year, represents a significant step towards decarbonisation. It demonstrates our commitment to environmentally friendly technologies and sustainable operations.
We have also included future expansions in our planning and examined all heat consumers relative to the new water volume setting, thus maximising efficiency even further. In addition to earning internal recognition, the new system is also highly valued externally. This project enables us to make a considerable contribution to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and further strengthens our position as a pioneer in sustainable industrial production.
