At starlim and sterner, we not only regard sustainability as an objective, but as a continuous process and an obligation to the environment, our employees and future generations. We are convinced that, in addition to contributing to the conservation of natural resources, sustainable action also promotes innovation and efficiency in every area of our enterprise.

Our initiatives range from the utilisation of renewable energies through photovoltaic systems and energy-efficient production processes to continuous optimisation of our buildings and systems. We employ the latest technology to minimise energy consumption and, simultaneously, to maximise operational safety.  The reduction of CO₂ emissions plays a central role in our efforts to continuously reduce the ecological footprint of our enterprise.

We focus on the energy of the Sun

Our photovoltaic systems provide us with an installed power capacity of 1.6 MWp. With a surface of 8,400 m², these PV rooftop systems on our plants in Marchtrenk, Weisskirchen and Lambach provide part of our energy requirement and enable us to save 330 tonnes of CO2 annually. The energy generated, which could supply approximately 500 households, is used 100% by us.

We exploit waste heat instead of squandering it

We utilise waste heat from compressed air compressors as a main energy source at our Marchtrenk, Weisskirchen and Lambach production locations. Heat pumps are only employed if the waste heat from the compressed air system is no longer adequate.

We heat our production locations without using fossil fuels

A heat pump system with an output of 2,155 kW is employed at the main location in Marchtrenk. Consequently, the plants can be operated with absolutely no need for fossil fuels. These measures enable us to save approximately 1,260 tonnes of CO2 per annum, which is more or less equivalent to a round flight from Vienna to Toronto.

Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (UN SDGs)

We recognise the significance of Agenda 2030 of the United Nations for sustainable development and the associated Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

These goals play a significant role in promoting a future characterised by fairness, inclusiveness and sustainability. We have identified the following SDGs as particularly relevant for our goals: SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG4 (Quality Education), SDG8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG10 (Reduced Inequalities) and SDG13 (Climate Action).

In the context of our ESG strategy, starlim and sterner are actively involved in accelerating progress in each of these goals. In addition, we support the ten universal principals of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) in the areas of labour, the environment, anti-corruption measures and human rights.

Our ESG Strategy

At starlim and sterner, we have set ourselves the goal of developing an ESG strategy which embodies a structured plan for achieving targeted initiatives and guides us during everyday decision-making, the development of enduring relationships and with regard to investments. This strategy enables us to address ESG-related opportunities and risks in a comprehensive and forward-looking manner.

We attach enormous importance to corporate responsibility and regularly assess our progress to promote the achievement of our ESG targets. In addition, we place an emphasis on transparency in both our processes and our services.
